Artist Zhang Wenzhi exhibited the characters he was deeply interested in, using ceramic and metal materials to interpret the life process of women and the process of change from youth to aging. This is profound and reveals the changing role of contemporary women.
She also takes the Red Guard figures from the artist's childhood memories and transforms them into zany ceramic sculptures with the comic (but recognizable) hyperbole. In addition to wearing the iconic headgear, these figures also carry small bags for distributing quotations from Chairman Mao and are shown almost completely nude.
Zhang Wenzhi also sought inspiration from the long history of Chinese mythology and folklore, reimagining the image of the dragon and giving it human attributes, rather than simply adopting more traditional images of intimidating creatures such as turtles, fish, and snakes, etc. The special feature of her sculptures is that she not only has her own imagination but also is deeply influenced by the subconscious of traditional Chinese culture.
